Make the Plastic Bottle Switch

MAKE THE SWITCH!!

Cars, industrial waste and pesticides have a huge impact on the environment, but what people haven’t previously thought of is plastic waste. Plastic is a material that’s used all the time – but its devastating effects on our oceans is only just beginning to be understood. Plastic may be one of the most inexpensive materials available, and has accumulated in the natural environment, affecting not only our wildlife and marines, but also the human body. This is due to the fact that plastic is composed of major toxic pollutants, which cause huge amounts of harm to the environment. As the world’s population increases, so does the amount of garbage we produce. Disposable products such as water bottles or cans have led to an increasing amount of plastic pollution worldwide. Drinks bottles are one of the most common types of plastic waste, with a million bottles sold per minute:

For marine life, plastic is mistaken for food, which can result in damage to the digestive systems of animals such as birds, whales and turtles.

“A recent survey by Plymouth University found that plastic was found in a third of UK-caught fish, including cod, haddock, mackerel and shellfish. This can result in malnutrition or starvation for the fish, and lead to plastic ingestion in humans to.” – Alison Trowsdale, Tom Housden and Becca Meier. BBC News.

MAKE THE SWITCH! Whether it be reusable bags, bottles or containers; if we all make them, these changes will help to save our precious environment .
